Location: Gate of Hadorianus, Athens,

                 Greece

The time when I arrived at Athens International Airport in Greece from Japan via London became around 4:00 am since I had planned the shortest transit time at London Heathrow International Airport. So it was still in deep darkness there.

However, it had given me a precious photo opportunity to take this photo in the calendar.

It is the Gate of Hadorianus, which was wrapped by the deep darkness in the night and lighted up.

This gate was built in 131 AD on the border of between the old city and the new city by the Roman emperor Hadrian. It is 18m in height and 13m in width with the building of Corinthian type.

The words, "This is Athens, the city of Theseus" on the wall of the Acropolis side and "This is the city of Hadrian, not Theseus's" on the back are engraved.

Please enjoy this historic World Heritage Site in 2014.
